Translation is art and science combined. It is an art because we translate not on the basis of a dictionary, but on the basis of the whole history of literatures. Translation is always a shift, not between two languages, but between two cultures.

Translation is also a science in the sense that it needs to follow principles and rules of syntax and grammar.
